Carrier Landing Procedure

Begin the circuit in Line Astern formation at 500 m /300 kmh passing the ship on her starboard (right) side at approximately the same heading. Flight leader breaks off first beginning a wide 180 degree turn. Other pilots follow the turn in order by the numbers after 8 -10 second intervals between each aircraft. Gradually increase spacing to allow each plane enough time to land and taxi forward on the deck. As you pass the ship again on her port (left)side radio your position as "Abeam" of the ship. Deploy flaps gear and hook as you slow to 180 kmh and begin your second wide turn to line up on the stern of the ship at 150 m. As you line up for approach radio your position as "On Final" and request permission to land. Stall speed for a A6M2 Zero is just around 120 kmh, 130 is a good speed to be at as you approach the fantail. Planes landing in front of you should report when they are "Down" and when they have left the "Deck Clear" . You may now land. Always starting the circuit in this direction has the added benefit of keeping you clear of the aft starboard crane as you come in for landing.
